BROAD ACTIVITIES

OBJECTIVES

  • Manage the area as a representative habitat for Mishmi Takin, Musk Deer, Red Panda, Snow leopard, Clouded Leopard, endangered birds and reptiles.
  • Protect and conserve the rare and endangered species and their habitat.
  • Research and documentation of the floral and faunal diversity of MNP.
  • To promote the active participation of the local community by providing various livelihood opportunities for proper management of the MNP.
  • Development & promotion of eco-tourism activities in the suitable fringe areas of MNP.

ACTIVITIES UNDERTAKEN

  • Protection activities and conservation initiatives. Smart Community Patrolling initiative with the local youths.
  • Habitat improvement and management activities.
  • Creation and maintenance of Patrolling paths/ trekking paths.
  • Wildlife health management. Conduction of awareness campaigns.
  • Prevention and control of seasonal forest fires.
  • Processing of Wildlife clearance proposals.
  • Carrying out of Census Reports.
  • Research permissions are regularly granted by the Chief Wildlife Warden (CWLW), Itanagar.
  • WII, Dehradun, FSI, Dehradun, ZSI, BSI, Itanagar, NCBS, Bengaluru, ATREE, Bengaluru, Titli Trust, Dehradun and Research Scholars from various academic Institutions are taking up various research studies under MNP.
  • Infrastructure developments activities.
  • Eco-development activities.

PROBLEMS IN ACHIEVING THE OBJECTIVES

  • No road connectivity to the MNP either from the Divisional HQ or the Range HQ's. Accessibility to the park is through patrolling paths and seasonal foot tracks.
  • Scientific documentation of the flora and fauna of the MNP is limited.
  • Poor infrastructure and absence of communication network.
  • Inaccessibility during rains.
  • Inadequate field and scientific staff.
